Beach Nourishment

The time has come for beach nourishment in Carolina Beach and Kure Beach!

What does this look like for your vacation?

A section of the beach may be shut down for 4-6 days to ensure public safety while shore pipeline is laid. Bulldozers and excavators will be used during this process along with possible construction noise and night illumination. While specific areas will be affected at a time between Carolina and Kure Beaches, you can still enjoy soaking up the sun and playing in the waves, and enjoying quality time with family and friends. When the beach nourishment is done there will be more beach to love and protection from the storms and erosion! Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

The Army Corps of Engineers has mobilized a contractor to conduct the Town’s beach nourishment project, and on or around February 25th, we anticipate sand to begin being placed on the beach at Sandpiper Lane.  To view the progress and get real time updates on project status and location, you can use the following placement viewer:

While the beach nourishment project is being done, the work area will be roped off.  The public is not allowed in that area while work is being performed due to hazardous conditions such as soft, sinking sand and heavy equipment usage. Piping will be placed along the beach outside the roped areas.  The public is advised to avoid areas containing above ground piping; there will be designated areas where the pipe will be buried that can be utilized for crossing to the ocean.
